2010 Courses Now Available

IDS Consulting offers a development training course to attorneys every month in one of the areas of our consultants' expertise. Courses include the NHTSA "DUI/SFST Practitioner" course, the NHTSA "DUI/SFST Instructor" course, the NHTSA "Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement" (ARIDE) course, an Overview of the NHTSA/IACP "DRE program", and an Overview of "Criminal/Drug Interdiction Techniques".

IDS Consulting will also come to your state and teach any of the above courses so you and your colleagues do not have to hassle with traveling. We will provide all the materials for the course to include a certificate of completion. Let the consultants who have trained over 26,000 officers in their areas of expertise train you!

  •              NHTSA's "Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement"

    *NHTSA's Newest DUI Drug Course for Law Enforcement*

    This course has replaced NHTSA's 8 hour "Drugs That Impair Driving" course and is designed to bridge the gap between the basic SFST course and the Drug Recognition Expert course. This course trains officers how to "observe, identify, and articulate" drivers under the influence of drugs and/or a combination of drugs and alcohol at roadside. All eight modules will be covered so the participants will receive the exact training as law enforcement.

    Areas to be Covered: Introduction & Overview of Drugs and Highway Safety, SFST Update & Review, SFST Proficiency, Drugs in the Human Body, Observation of the Eyes and Other Tests for Impairment, Seven Drug Categories, Effects of Drug Combinations, and Pre and Post Arrest Procedures

    Participants will Receive: NHTSA's "ARIDE" student manual, CD-ROM containing student manual and various drug studies, certificate of course completion

  •                         NHTSA's "DUI Detection & SFST Instructor" Course 

    Participants will receive the same training law enforcement officers receive throughout the nation in the most up to date NHTSA DUI/SFST Instructor course. All nine modules will be covered in order for participants to become a DUI/SFST Instructor under NHTSA guidelines.

  •              IACP/NHTSA Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) Course Overview  

    Participants will receive a thorough overview of the DRE Pre-School & DRE 7-Day school that officers attend nationwide. Emphasis will be spent on analyzing a DRE Face Sheet & DRE Narrative report and how to compare the two with one and other, as well as emphasis on each specific step involved in a 12-step DRE evaluations.

    This course includes a practical exercise in which participants will have an opportunity to cross examine the DRE instructor while receiving feedback from the trial techniques instructor. 

    Areas to be Covered: Effectively Cross Examining a DRE, The 12 Step Process in a DRE evaluation, Interpreting a DRE Face Sheet and Narrative, The 7 DRE Drug Categories, Drug Combinations & Their Effects, The Drug Symptomology Chart, Examination of Vital Signs, The 4 Psychophysical Tests during a DRE Evaluation, The 4 Eye Exams duing a DRE Evaluation, The Development and Validation of the DRE Program

    Participants will Receive: 2007 DRE Pre-School & 7 day School Student Manual, DRE Trial Techniques Handout, DRE Course Handouts, CD-ROM containing DRE Checklists, DRE Face Sheets, and DRE Narratives, Certificate of Completion

  •                       NHTSA's "DUI Detection & SFST Practitioner" Course   

    Participants will receive the same training law enforcement officers receive throughout the nation in the most up to date NHTSA DUI/SFST course. All modules will be covered in order for participants to become a SFST practitioner under NHTSA guidelines. In addition to the NHTSA blocks of instruction, a block of instruction on DUI trial techniques will be covered.

    Two live alcohol workshops will be conducted so the participants will be able to administer the SFSTs, as well as observe true physical manifestations (bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, etc.) on volunteers with BACs from 0.00 to 0.15. Students will also be shown how nystagmus can be induced on a person with a low BAC during the HGN test, when administered incorrectly and not to NHTSA guidelines.

  •                        "Behind the Secrets of Highway Drug Interdiction"

    First Time Ever Offering Exclusively for Attorneys!

    This course will take the participant behind the secrets to the training officers receive across the nation in Highway Drug Interdiction techniques. This course will thoroughly cover areas such as indicators officers are trained to look for in drivers prior to a traffic stop and during a traffic stop, to racial profiling and indicators of deception. This course also includes a 2-hour block on trial techniques concerning this subject matter.
